Oxford Hockey Club junior girls at an academy training session

As a club, we’re keen to encourage juniors to develop their hockey further by playing in the adult sides, once they’re old enough and ready to do so. The minimum age to play in a senior league game is 13.

To help bridge the gap between junior and senior hockey, Oxford Hockey Club runs 2 development teams for girls. A development side can have a maximum of 4 adult players, who help to coach the juniors during games. Adults are not allowed to score, but otherwise the rules are as in a normal game of hockey. Our development team juniors are usually aged 11 and upwards, and not yet ready to play in the senior teams.

The Oxford H.C. development teams play in local leagues, against other development sides, on some Saturdays during the winter season. They are good fun games, and particularly useful for giving younger players more experience of playing 11-a-side, full-pitch games.
